helping people take charge of their mental health and wellbeing

Providing people with strategies to help them take charge of their mental wellbeing.

.

Take Charge Wellbeing is committed to helping individuals and businesses manage and improve their own mental health and wellbeing and recognise mental health and wellbeing problems in others.

Having had over 20 years experience as a blue-collar worker and working in Fly In, Fly Out (FIFO) roles, Darren Peterson has seen firsthand the impact that mental health problems can have on work and families. Darren saw a need for more support and tools to be provided to FIFO and heavy industry workers to assist them in better dealing with their thoughts, feelings and emotions, particularly whilst at work

It was this experience, combined with the devastating fact that 14 people took their own lives on the last FIFO job he was on, that drove Darren to create the Take Charge Wellbeing Workshop in 2017.

The Take Charge workshop teaches individuals tools and strategies that are derived from evidence-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Meditation practices. This demonstrates to participants how they can use their minds and bodies independently to have a positive impact on their overall wellbeing and mental health. Our workshop also equips participants with the practical skills to support someone else experiencing a mental health problem.

The Take Charge workshop is delivered in an informal manner using terminology and scenarios that participants are likely to engage with and relate to as the workshop is delivered by a peer; someone who has been in their shoes. The program can be tailored to the organisation and altered to suit different industries and groups.

After attending a Take Charge workshop, individuals can make a real difference at work and in their personal life by Taking Charge of their mental health and wellbeing.

“I know all too well the devastating effect mental health struggles can have on a family and a workplace.”
